Statements of salt contractors, 1862-1863.

This series contains financial statements of companies under contract to produce salt for the state. Statements are for the years 1862 and 1863 and indicate amounts of salt produced and sold, date of production or sale, and amount due the company in the form of commissions, bonuses, or other payment by the state. Contracting companies include John P. Figh in Clarke County, Ala., McClung and Jaques and Company, and the Ala. Salt Manufacturing Company in Saltville, Va. Attached to the 1863 Aug. statement of the Ala. Salt Manufacturing Company is a statement of verification of shipment by Capt. Joseph H. Speed, agent for the state.
