These materials were used by Scott in writing The reluctant farmer: the rise of agricultural extension to 1914 (call no. The materials include photocopies, citations, and handwritten and typewritten notes on subjects such as demonstration farms, extension work, land grant colleges, agricultural and industrial development, railroad land companies, and soil conservation.

Roy Vernon Scott was born 29 December 1927 in Wrights, Illinois; his parents were Roy J. and Edna (Dodson) Scott. He served in the U.S. Air Force (1946-1948) prior to attending college, and he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He received a B.S. (1952) from Iowa State College (University) and an M.A. (1953) and Ph.D. (1957) from the University of Illinois.
