The collection contains Allison Thomas's correspondence with General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh in 1945-1946, a diary from 1945, photographs from 1945, correspondence with General Vo Nguyen Giap and General Dam Quang Trung from 1981 to 1994, and newspaper and magazine clippings about Thomas and Giap from 1968 to 1997. The correspondence provides information about Thomas' involvement with Vietnamese resistance forces, his friendship with Giap, their reunion in 1990, and their hopes for a better relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam.

Allison Kent Thomas commanded an Office of Strategic Services group that parachuted into Vietnam in 1945 to train the Vietnamese resistance, led by Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap, against the Japanese. He received an A.B. in 1935 and a J.D. in 1939 from the University of Michigan. Thomas later practiced law in East Lansing, Michigan.
