Article on former Confederate president Jefferson Davis' visit to Texas in 1875 based on Governor Lubbock's book "Six Decades in Texas" describing the warm reception Davis received in Houston and as he traveled through the state on his way home to Memphis, Tennessee. Texas was the first state to publically honor Davis after his release from a United States prison. Photograph of Davis with veterans from Davis Guards and the Veterns of San Jacinto in front of the Houston Court House (1875) including Major Martin; others indentified are Texas governors O. M. Roberts, John Ireland, F. R. Lubbock, L. S. Ross, E. M. Pease, Peter H. Bell, Richard Hubbard and Richard Coke. Another news clipping recounts a Confederate reunion in Athens in 1892 attended by Theodore Roosevelt who had been a member of Hood's Brigade. Also included is a Confederate lithograph print.
