The 29th Regiment of the Connecticut Infantry was the first black regiment in Connecticut. Organized at Fair Haven and mustered in March 1864. After duty in Maryland and South Carolina, the regiment engaged in siege operations against Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. After the occupation of Richmond in April 1865, the regiment guarded prisoners of war at Point Lookout, Maryland.
