Primarily military papers of the time to which Grigsby acted as captain of Company E, California Volunteers, including articles of agreement by which the company was associated with the forces of the United States under command of John C. Frémont, enlistment rolls, requisitions, receipts and Grigsby's letter of resignation. v. II. Two letter, Sept. 1877, from the acting secretary of the Association transmitting the papers for copying.

He was a US Senator from California, and in 1856 was the first Republican nominee for President of the United States.
