Caroline Service letters to Lisa Green : TLS and ALS, 1950 Sept.-1995 April.

Consists of letters written almost weekly by Caroline Service to her friend and fellow wife of a Foreign Service Officer, Lisa (Lispenard) Green. The letters begin in Sept. 1950, during her stay in India while waiting for her husband, John (Jack) Service to join her at his new posting. She discusses Jack's professional career and activities, including his trial by the House Un-American Activities Committee, as well as the Green's professional life and travels in Asia and Europe. Caroline also wrote about her own family's professional and personal travels to New York, Liverpool, and Spain, as well as their several trips to China. Topics of her letters also include their new homes and surroundings; children and grandchildren; presidential elections; the Oakland-Berkeley Hills fire of 1991; and everyday events in their life in the San Francisco Bay Area, including theater, trips to San Francisco, holidays and birthdays, books, relatives and mutual friends, and in her later years, their health.
