Whiting family papers, 1924-1939.

Henry Hyer Whiting correspondence with William G. McAdoo, 1932-1938. Contains Whiting's files, mainly as Northern California campaign manager for McAdoo. A few letters to and form others included. Also, copies of correspondence with John W. Preston concerning federal judgeships for California, and of letters from William Green, president, American Federation of Labor, endorsing McAdoo. Ethel Robertson Whiting's journal, 1924-1939 (typed transcripts). Sporadically kept record of her activities, including social life while her husband was Northern California campaign manager for W.G. McAdoo, 1932 and 1938. Several visits to Washington, D.C., including the 1933 inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt, recorded. The transcript volumes contain letters, clippings and interpolations by Mrs. Whiting up to 1957. With these: To whom it may concern a history of her family. Biographical sketches of her father, George M. Robertson; her mother, Caroline B. Story; her maternal grandfather, Charles R. Story a '49er via Cape Horn and other members of the Robertson and Story families included.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. He was the son of James (lawyer, financier) and Sara (Delano) Roosevelt.
