Charles Deaton architectural records, 1964-1993 [manuscript].

The collection contains a large selection of Deaton's designs for completed and uncompleted architectural projects (1964-1992). These include residential, commercial and sports related structures located in Colo., Mo., Ill., Minn., Mich., Wyo., Canada and Saudia Arabia; architectural models personally constructed by Deaton (n.d.); industrial, ceiling, two-seat airplane, sewing machine and furniture related designs (1972, n.d.); sketches and original paintings (n.d.). Approximately 25 architectural plans (1992) for the Deaton approved completion and addition to the Sculptured House are also included. Horatio Alger award information, copies of Art in America magazines with articles on the Sculptured House, brochures, catalogs, correspondence between architects and architectural firms, letterhead, wedding announcement.

The noted architect, Charles Deaton was born in Clayton, N.M. on January 1, 1921. Largely self-taught, he developed an interest in design in high school and became a commercial artist before the start of World War II. During the war, Deaton worked at a Lockheed defense plant in Calif. where he became acquainted with aircraft engineering and aerodynamic design.
