James Penrose Harland was a graduate of the Princeton University Class of 1913. Following graduation he went on to become a professor of classical archaeology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1923-1945. In 1926 Harland secured a grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fund and spent a year excavating on the Greek island of Aigina, eventually publishing his findings in the study PREHISTORIC AIGINA in 1966.
