This collection includes 44 daybooks, four exercise books, and one copy book. The daybooks record the sales transactions of a general store. Samuel Rex's daybook indicates that he sold iron to John Sweitzer who manufactured nails for Rex. Most items sold were paid for in English pounds. Goods mentioned include earthenware, dry-goods, liquors, glassware, tobacco, spices, hardware, tools, various types of groceries, and clothing. The exercise books were kept by Samuel and Franklin Rex. They include exercises in accounting and bookkeeping. The back cover of Samuel Rex's first exercise book contains an architectural drawing of a house.
