Papers, 1827-1905, bulk 1827-1829.

Consists of two diaries for the years 1828 and 1829; and on microfilm, a sketchbook dated 1828, family photographs, and genealogical papers for the Oddie family. Diary entries discuss Oddie's family, health, and financial difficulties as well as his responses to art works by others, books he had read, and world affairs. The death of one of his children is chronicled in these pages. Although Oddie claimed to disdain politics, he was a staunch foe of Andrew Jackson in 1828. In 1828 and 1829, Oddie noted his attendance at the third and fourth annual exhibitions of the National Academy of Design. He also describes practicing art by copying prints and taking lessons from portraitist Anthony Lewis DeRose. Two watercolors by Julia Meigs are laid in the second volume.

2 v. and 3 microfilm reels.
