Papers, 1815-1867.

Consists of three letterbooks (1829-1834, 1834-1837, and 1852-1859), 41 letters written to Thomas Fletcher or his business associates (1815-1846), a ledger book (bulk, 1841-1843), eight miscellaneous accounts and bills, two trade cards, a broadside, and eight drawings attributed to Fletcher & Bennett. The ledgerbook is divided into four sections. The first records cash taken in and paid out from 1841 to 1843. It also contains inventories of merchandise on hand in 1841 and 1842. The volume was later used by Fletcher's daughter, Martha Fletcher, as a diary from January 1864 to June 1867. Entries record such things as the weather, social and domestic activities, comings and goings of family members, and trips to the dressmaker. Finally, the manuscript features a catalog of books in the Delanco Library. Other financial documents record jewelry, lamps, silverware, and other items sold by Fletcher. The two cards feature a representation of a vase made for Isaac Hull. One bears the name Thomas Fletcher, while the other says T. Fletcher late Fletcher & Gardiner. The design was engraved by James H. Young and George Delleker, ca. 1822. The broadside features a description of vases presented to DeWitt Clinton. The drawings depict lighting fixtures and are English in character. Three are watercolors showing lamps with decorative bases. Three printed illustrations depict lamps and chandeliers and include stock numbers and prices for each. Finally, two pencil sketches show the decorative elements and details for lamp bases.
