Expositions glass stereograph collection. 1851-1900.

This is an assembled, growing collection of glass stereographs from international expositions. Invented in 1838, the stereograph was introduced to the public at the international Exposition of 1851, London. Published to be sold or given away, the stereographs preserve official and popular contemporary views of displays and exposition sites and buildings. Although more expensive than paper stereographs, glass stereographs were prized for their clarity and quality of detail.
