La Peinture des coupoles [manuscript], ca. 1863.

The collection consists of Henri Delaborde's final draft for his article "La Peinture des Coupoles, la Nef de Saint-Roch, par M. Roger," published in the "Revue des Deux Mondes," 1863, Dec. 15. The manuscript is missing page 12, but contains numerous revisions regarding phrasing, and notes on the versos of two pages that were not included in the printed version. The text traces the history of dome frescoes from the time of Correggio to Adolphe Roger's painting in Saint Roch. Delaborde offers his critical appraisal of Correggio, the dome of Florence Cathedral painted by Giorgio Vasari (finished by Federico Zuccaro), the dome of the chapel of Fontainebleau painted by Martin Fréminet, the dome of the Eglise des Carmes, Paris, painted by Bertholet Flemaël I, the dome of Val-de-Grâce painted by Pierre Mignard I, the dome of the Eglise des Invalides, Paris, painted by Charles de Lafosse, the dome of the Panthéon, Paris, painted by Baron Antoine-Jean Gros (for which Delaborde also describes the changes made because of shifts in political power), and the dome of Saint Roch, Paris, painted by Adolphe Roger. A copy of the printed article is included in the accession file.
