Includes investment proposals, actual investment records, land purchase negotiations, financial reports, land sales ledgers with contracts, payments, deeds, warrants, patents, and tax assessments of six Dutch banking houses mostly in New York State and Pennsylvania. There are court actions and related legal papers, a variety of miscellaneous printed and manuscript documents, and a wealth of correspondence between the owners, land agents, banks, legal representatives, and the settlers. Also, includes a valuable collection of maps ranging from pre-survey drafts and survey records to precisely scaled village and city layouts and regional maps. Many maps are color-coded to reflect land ownership, sales patterns, transportation arteries, and periodic changes in developing settlements.
