Letters to Eugène Fromentin, 1870-1871.

The 3 letters sent by Christophe to the painter and writer Eugène Fromentin from the front were written at the most crucial moments of the Franco-Prussian War. Cristophe expresses his dismay over Napoleon III's surrender at Sedan (1870 Sept. 10), and his worries during the siege of Paris (1871 Feb. 11). On the eve of the peace negotiations he speaks about the military and political mistakes that led the country to disaster (1871 Feb. 14).
