Illustrations to Homer's Iliad: Proofs (1805) and Illustrations to Homer's Odyssey: Proofs (1806), 1805-1806.

Proof impressions of plates prepared to illustrate editions of the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey" issued in 1805 and in 1806. Du Roveray employed printmakers such as Isaac Taylor to prepare etchings after paintings by artists such as Henry Fuseli, and he asked the printmakers to submit a preliminary proof (with backgrounds roughed in) and a final proof (presumably as a guide for a printer); both versions are usually represented in these volumes. In Fuseli's published correspondence is a letter from Taylor to Du Roveray dated 1806 complaining that "all my plates appear in your Volumes much coarser than in my proofs" (with detailed instructions on how his plates should be printed).

2 v. (ca. 40 plates each v.)
