Liliane Hasson collection of Reinaldo Arenas, 1983-1990.

Consists of 60 letters by Reinaldo Arenas from Miami and New York City to Hasson in Paris, France, from 1983 to 1990, and copies of three manuscripts by Arenas, ADIÓS A MAMÁ (1995), VIAJE Á LA HABANA (1990), and his autobiography, ANTES QUE ANOCHEZCA (1992). The latter contains corrections by Hasson and Margarita Camacho. Also present are drafts of a speech for a conference on "Thirty Years of the Cuban Revolution: An Assessment," in 1989 in Nova Scotia.

Novelist, storywriter, poet, and essayist, Reinaldo Arenas was born in Holguín, Province of Oriente, Cuba, in 1943. He studied philosophy and literature at the Universidad de La Habana without completing a degree. His first novel, CELESTINO ANTES DEL ALBA, which in 1965 won a First Mention Award at the Cirilo Villaverde National Competition, was published by the National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists in 1967.
