Letters include: a note to the poet Robert Gracen, commenting on his recent volume of verse "One Recent Evening" and offering advice on publishing it (1944 April 22); two notes to E.H. Rasdall (1951) thanking him for the appreciative letters; and a letter to John Bourne Coates (1958 April 7) commenting on Coates' "A challenge to Christianity" (London, 1958) - Read characterizes himself as a "humanist" in aesthetic, not ethical, matters, and explains why he does not consider himself to be a "rationalist."
