David Robinson letters to Wilmot P. Sanford, 1877 Jun 29-1878 Jan 29.

Three ALS with envelopes to former company member Wilmot P. Sanford, residing in Hudson, New Hampshire. The letters, dated June 29 and September 23, 1877, and January 20, 1878, describe military life at Fort Peck; news of mutual friends; and desertions among the company. Robinson states in the September letter that Colonel Miles plans to meet General Terry at Fort Benton and go with him to Sitting Bull's camp to discuss peace; his January letter notes that because Sitting Bull has threatened to attack Fort Peck, reinforcements from the 5th Infantry have arrived and the soldiers are not allowed to go more than 500 yards from the fort.
