David Smith at work. 1960-1965.

Ca. 1,700 images are on enlarged proof sheets, each depicting a series of photographs developed as a composite sheet from 35 mm. negatives. Only a limited number of views, those with dots on the corners, have been published. Shown is sculptor David Smith at work on his farm "Terminal Iron Works" in Bolton Landing, New York. Smith is seen both at work in the interior studio and interacting with his pieces arranged outdoors in the fields, primarily during the winter months when snow covered the ground. One series shows Smith arranging iron tools shipped to him from Spoleto, Italy, which were meant for incorporating into his sculptures. Several sheets portray him in his environment, walking, shopping, reading and conversing.

50 photographic prints ; 41 x 51 cm.
