The collection documents the career of Gary Schwartz as art publisher, distributor, translator and editor. Included are correspondence, proofs, copy, galleys, translations and promotional material. Correspondence files (1970-1979, 1985-1988) include letters to and from publishers, scholars, designers, distributors, universities and museums. Extensive correspondence exists with Svetlana Alpers, Bruce Cole, Phaidon Press, Abner Schram, Viking Penguin among others. Some letters to and from Alje Olthof, book designer. Microfilm (13 reels + duplicate set) documents Schwartz's bookkeeping documents, 1970-1988.
