General correspondence, 1948-[ongoing].

This series contains original and photocopied correspondence received and generated by the Lieutenant Governor in his function of being second in command of the State of Georgia. Included are: (1) letters addressed to the Lt. Governor concerning diverse subjects which often have no connection to the official duties of the office but rather concern controversial issues of the day; (2) memorandums, correspondence and other documents recording the "give and take" of politics in day-to-day affairs; (3) correspondence from business leaders of other countries with ties to Georgia; (4) reading files oftentimes consisting of copied form-letters composed as replies to large volumes of correspondence or multiple replies to a single event as well as single "one-on-one" replies; (5) replies to invitations; and (6) telegrams sent and (7) occasional items that can't be classified as correspondence.

Lester G. Maddox was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on 30 September 1915, to Dean and Flonnie Maddox.
