Ernestine Schumann-Heink contracts and financial papers, 1888-1920 (bulk 1912-1915).

Concert and recording contracts, some with related correspondence; real estate contracts, deeds, and correspondence; and other financial papers. Most concert contracts were made by Schumann-Heink through her agent, Wolfsohn Musical Bureau, for concerts in various cities in the Eastern and Midwestern United States, 1912-1914. Also present are a few contracts and related papers concerning the Victor Talking Machine Company, 1906-1915; the Cincinnati Musical Festival Association, 1913; and baritone Edward J. McNamara, 1914. Real estate documents, 1888-1920, include contracts relating to construction of a house in San Diego, California; deeds for property in Chicago, Illinois; and a few letters and financial documents concerning other holdings in California and New York City Included is a small amount of correspondence with artist manager L. E. Behymer and Schumann-Heink's son Hans Heink. Financial papers, 1913-1919, include lists of Schumann-Heink's financial assets, a will and codicil, and other papers relating to investments. Also present is correspondence with the Overman Tire Company, concerning a business owned by Schumann-Heink's son, Henry Schumann-Heink.

Born in Austria in 1861, the well-known opera singer Madame Schumann-Heink performed in the great opera houses of Germany, England and America. She became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. in 1905, toured widely in this country, and was very active during World War I performing for U.S. servicemen.
