Letters and engravings, ca. 1850-1877.

Collection includes: 4 letters by Monnier, 6 engraved vignettes cut into 5 small sheets, 12 engraved vignettes cut-out and pasted to rectangular pieces of paper, and an accompanying envelope. The latter is inscribed by Jules Troubat: "Rendues par M. Champfleury à M. Troubat le 8 Juillet 1877." On the same envelope there is an inscription in Champfleury's hand: "Vignettes Henry Monnier paginées d'après la 1ère édition Dentu" [1879]. The quotation refers to Champfleury's annotations on the support of the mounted vignettes, indicating the order number and page in the Dentu edition and the title. Five of them are part of the series "Le premier de l'an," three are entitled "Les Girouettes," and one is from the Prudhomme series. The unmounted vignettes have no identification. The letters are short messages, signed but undated: one, addressed to Monsieur Beck, announces his departure for a trip; another, to Willems, indicates the time when Monnier may be reached; a similar note and a thank you note have no addressee names.

4 letters.17 sheets (18 engravings) ; 9 x 12 cm.
