ALS to "Dear Uncle," Oliver Snow regarding his journey with other Mormons from Ohio to Illinois and Missouri, where they joined a Mormon settlement and purchased farmland. Snow describes the beauty and fertility of Missouri, and the local wildlife. He states that reports received in Ohio that the Mormons are starving and are being killed by mobs are unfounded. Lorenzo Snow was born 3 April 1814 in Mantua, Ohio. After being baptized a member of the Church, he served a mission in Ohio and the Eastern States. He was ordained to the office of Seventy in 1840. He served as President of the United Order in Brigham City from 1874-1886. He was ordained an apostle in 1849, after which he served missions to England and Europe.
