Debt settlement files of the county railroad bond files, 1880-1887.

In 1885 the State Legislature passed an act whereby the State of Ala. would assume the debts of various counties that had issued bonds to construct a railroad in the county. The state accomplished this by buying back the bonds of the railroad thus eliminating the debt of the county. The series contains bonds, correspondence, and financial reports on the debt settlement of those counties.
