Also contains a Taylor family genealogical record which includes an autobiographical sketch of Levi's father, Pleasant Green Taylor. Also includes a journal of Levi's first wife, Nancy Jane Gates, September 1868-August 1869. Her record includes lists of students she taught at Lynne, Utah, in 1868; lists of children who attended Sunday School in Lynne, 1868-1869; and other information. The materials are duplicates of the originals.

Levi James Taylor was born 20 May 1851 at Kaysville, Utah Territory. He spent most of his life in Harrisville, Utah. He was a farmer and also taught school for a time. In 1873 he went to Arizona on a colonizing mission, returning after four months. In 1882-1884 he served a Latter-day Saint mission to the Southern States (Virginia and West Virginia). Pleasant Green Taylor was baptized in 1832, the first person to accept the LDS church in the state of Missouri. The biography traces his life in the church until his death.
