Architectural drawings for the Villa Borghese, ca. 1770-ca. 1793.

Designs prepared to convert the Villa Borghese into a museum. The earliest architectural drawings (about 13) are either signed by or attributable to the architect in charge, Antonio Asprucci, and a larger number (about 28) are by his son Mario Asprucci. A small number (about 5) are designs for ceiling or wall paintings by Tommaso Conca. Many of the designs by these three were executed, but some are alternatives. The patron, Marcantonio Borghese, was actively involved in the design process. The drawings include wall elevations and designs for door enframements and vases. Most were prepared for presentation, but some are preliminary and show alterations.
