Holographs, signed: 75 letters to the actor Constant Coquelin (l'ainé) and letters to Antonin Proust, Pierre-Georges Jeanniot, and the comtesse Potocka. Printed ephemera relating to Béraud is included. The letters were mostly written to Coquelin while he was touring abroad, especially in the United States. Béraud informs Coquelin about performances and actors of the Comédie-Française; talks about his work and the Salon; and discusses the Eiffel Tower, the rise of Boulangism, and anarchism.

Painter of portraits and genre scenes, also an esteemed designer and book illustrator born in Geneva. He was a disciple of his father, Pierre-Alexandre, the director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Dijon. An army officer, he resigned in 1881 and started exhibiting his works regularly at the Salon in Paris. He wrote this text at the age of 77.
