Letters, 1853-1872.

Collection includes letters to Charles Hargitt, H. Graves, John Callcott Horsley, William Bemrose, Salomon Alexander Hart and others. In a letter to a Mrs. Bell (1856 Sept. 3), Redgrave gives detailed instructions on the art of oil painting and provides a list of suitable colors; Redgrave includes sketches in the text showing the lay-out of his palette and profiles of recommended brushes. A letter to John Callcott Horsley (1865 Feb. 10) asks for information on Augustus Wall Callcott to be included in a history of the British Academy. A separate sheet lists his painting "The Midwood Shade" which is to be included in William Michael Rossetti's American Exhibition of British Art.
