Sir Walter Besant correspondence, 1876-1901.

Consists of approximately 100 letters by Besant to his publisher, Chatto & Windus (London), from 1881 to 1901; 9 letters, 1891-1901, to Lord Monkswell; and various letters, 1876-1901, written and received by Besant, partly in his capacity as one of the founders (1884) of the Society of Authors, from a variety of correspondents, including Sir Henry Irving, Herbert Spencer, Andrew Lang, and Hall Caine. There are also several letters of others, including a letter by Theodore Watts-Dunton to Lady Besant.
