Oral history interview with Carolyn Wells, 1991 May 31.

Carolyn Wells came to the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., in 1945 to work for restorer Stephen Pichetto, later becoming research assistant to curators Fern Shapley and John Walker before retiring in 1951 to raise a family. She resumed her career in 1969 to assist John Walker in his research and publications after he retired from the National Gallery. Wells recounted he rexperiences working with Pichetto to inventory the Berlin paintings brought to the Gallery in 1946 for safekeeping, and later her activities developing addressograph cards for the Gallery's collections as well as other research work. She described Harry McBride, John Walker, Anna Voris and other personalities and their contributions to the National Gallery, and described her activities with John Walker after his retirement.
