Appointments files, 1821-1825.

Correspondence consisting of letters and petitions concerning civil and military appointments, commissions, elections and resignations. Included are letters requesting commissions, letters of recommendation and letters alleging fraud in local elections. Most of the correspondence relates to positions in local government, though a few concern positions in Mobile Bay, such as pilot and harbor warden, and various other state jobs. The letters of resignation are from county and local officials, state legislators and state appointed officials. Often the reason for resigning is stated in the letter. Notable resignations which appear are from Harry Toulmin and John Williams Walker.
