Louise Michel and the commune / Paul Foot, 1979.

Paul Foot speaks at the 1979 Socialist Workers' Party Easter Rally. From cassette jacket: "The 'democracy' behind which our system masquerades today is so stale and meaningless that it is important to remember that there have been times when working people took brief control of their lives, that a real democracy operated. In this talk, Paul Foot tells of Louise Michel and the Paris Commune of 1871, when democracy flowered for a few brief weeks. The story is told through Louise Michel because women played a key role in the Commune--a fact that history has carefully hidden. Women then proved their power to change society in which we live, and they will prove it again."
