Typescript copies of letters written by Kit Carson in his official capacity as Indian agent for the tribes of Northern New Mexico. The letters, written to New Mexico Territorial Governors/Superintendents of Indian Affairs William S. Messeroy, David Meriwether, W.W.H. Davis, Jason L. Collins, and S.M. Yost, concern Carson's work with bands of Apaches, Arapahoes, Comanches, Pueblos, and Utahs. Typescript copies of letters sent to Carson from George Manypenny to W.W.H. Davis regarding payments to Carson, and letters to Carson regarding Agency business from William W. Bent, Jason L. Collins, and A.B. Greenwood, are also included in the collection.
