The series consists of two volumes (one of them disbound) used to track events relating to inmates scheduled for execution at Sing Sing during the period 1915 to 1967. The logs contain: inmate's name and number; county of sentencing and date received; week execution scheduled; name and address of family; name of spiritual advisor and name of attorney.

New York's first state prison, Newgate, opened in New York City in 1797. Newgate was quickly found to be unsatisfactory due to poor construction and the impossibility of developing viable industries.
