A symposium commemorating the discovery of Deimos and Phobos, the satellites of Mars, by Asaph Hall at the Naval Observatory in August 1877. The symposium was held at the British Embassy near the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. Among the speakers were: Andrew Sinclair, Dan Pasque, Thomas Duxbury, Joseph Veverka, Joseph Burns. A paper by Owen Gingerich was presented by Brian Marsden.
