Letters, 1890-1892.

Five handwritten and signed letters signed in Carroll's real name, Charles L. Dodgson. Three of the items are addressed to "Beach," Michael Edward Hicks-Beach, and two are addressed to "Tora," Victoria Hicks-Beach. One copy each of "Eight or Nine Wise Words about Letter Writing" and "The Wonderland Postage Stamp Case" with notes from Carroll to Hicks-Beach. Also included are photocopied biographical materials on Hicks-Beach and a dealer's description of the contents of Carroll's letters.

Lewis Carroll, born Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in England at Daresbury, Cheshire, to Charles Dodgson, an Anglican clergyman, and his wife Frances Jane Lutwidge on January 27, 1832. In 1851, Dodgson matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford, and in 1855 was appointed to a mathematical lectureship in that college, of which he remained a member for the rest of his life.
