Leopold Jessner prompt books, 1903-1953.

Four prompt books for plays directed by Jessner, containing holograph notes, sketches of set designs and dialogue changes, including: Nachtasyl by Maxim Gorky (Munich: Dr. J. Marchlewski & Co., 1903 - produced in Hamburg, 1907 or 1911); Die Wölfe by Romain Rolland, which bears the stamp of the Altonaer Stadttheater, (Munich: Georg Müller, 1920 - produced in Altona, 1930); Haus Herzenstod by George Bernard Shaw, which bears the stamp of the Bibliothek der Staatstheater Berlin, (missing publication information - produced in Berlin, 1931); and Macbeth by Shakespeare (missing publication information - produced in Berlin, 1922). Also included is a letter to Mrs. Leopold Jessner (Elsa), from Toby Cole Krich, along with a response by Elsa Jessner, 1953, regarding permissions for Leopold Jessner's works.
