Essay about decorative painting, [ca. 1905-1920].

Incomplete draft of an essay about decorative painting signed by Georges Desvallières (n.d.). The author traces the evolution of the new current which succeeded l'Ecole de Nancy. He invokes the Salon d'automne which, under the impulse of Frantz Jourdain, led to the decorative "ensembles" of Villon, Mare, Süe and Follot, and to the success of the modern "mouvement décoratif." Desvallières considers that mural painting requires some changes in the attitude of the artist, whose role assumes a social dimension. His creation must work with the rest of the decoration and the destination of the room. He must collaborate with the architect and the decorator to create an harmonious environment.
