Letters received, 1855-1903.

Collection consists of letters addressed to Georges Petit or to his associates Hamman and Protais. The letters are from over forty correspondents and primarily concern business matters related to the sale of paintings, though there is some discussion of subject matter, work in progress, and upcoming exhibitions. A number of the letters are addressed to Petit in his capacity as vice president of the "Societe d'Aquarellistes Francais" or as a member of the organizing committee for a French exhibition in Copenhagen (1888). Correspondents include Jean-Charles Cazin, Meissonier, Mathilde Herbelin, Jules Breton, J. G. Vibert, Gustave Geffroy, Antonin Proust, Pierre Emmanuel Damoye, the watercolorist Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart, Martin Rico, Henri Gervex and Alphonse Moutte. In alphabetical order by correspondent.
