Letters received, 1881-1896.

The collection comprises 20 letters from 5 artists sent to the Arnold and Tripp dealers between 1881 and 1896. 10 letters are from the painter and engraver Félix Henri Braquemond. Seven of them, dated from 1881 and 1882, are related to the etching after a painting by Théodore Rousseau commissioned by the dealers. The artist confirms the terms of the agreement, including the payment for the etching, the number of states, the number of prints, the sale price, and the sharing of the proofs between the artist and the dealer. Braquemond advises against making an engraving after a Courbet, already reproduced by Lançon, suggesting instead Paul Huet's work at the Palais du Luxembourg, to go with the Corot he will make for Tripp. In 1884 the artist explains that, being the president of the Salon jury, he cannot lobby for a better placement of his own print in the gallery.
