Account book, dated 1698-1707, written in the hand of Phillip Ayres, containing household accounts for the Drake family of Shardeloes (Amersham, England). Provides details of the cost of bringing up a gentleman's son [Montague Garrad Drake], including mourning swords, silver shoe buckles, cost of 'wiggs' and barber's charges, 'for a Horace with ye Dauphin's notes,' for visiting plays and operas," constables' bills, horse hire, coach hire, soap and candles, servant's wages and livery, writing materials, velvet capes, gloves, etc. Also contains charges for the various teachers of Master Drake in specialized subjects, and for his physicians.
