Mili︠u︡tin papers, 1860-1875.

Includes memoirs of Miliutin's wife, as well as an unfinished story, "Memoirs of a Governess" (both in Russian); letters and copies of letters arranged into chapters (in Russian, with a few pages in French); and a bound volume of copies of letters to and from Miliutin and his wife (in French), divided into five chapters. Topics include the emancipation of serfs and the 1861 student demonstrations in Petersburg. The volume includes letters to Miliutin from his brother, Dmitrii Alekseevich Miliutin, who was the Tsarist Minister of War from 1816 to 1881.

Miliutin was Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He helped draft legislation for the emancipation of Russian serfs in 1861, and was the architect of a broad program of reform legislation for Russian Poland, from 1864 to 1866.
