William Horne Dame (1819-1884) is best known as a Mormon Church leader and colonel in the Utah Militia in Parowan, Utah at the time of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857. New Samuel Whitney was born March 1, 1851 to Francis Tuft and Clarissa Alger Whitney in Iron County, Utah. He was named "New" because he was the first white child born in Iron County.
