This series consists of correspondence and financial records of Gov. Thomas Bibb, 1820 July - Nov. Included are letters from citizens concerning the militia, local politics and elections. Also includes copies of documents relating to river navigation. Of particular interest are several documents, 1820 Oct. 24 and Nov. 28, concerning a loan made by the Planters' and Merchants' Bank of Huntsville to the State of Ala. and a promissory note, 1821 Sept. 7, in which Bibb agrees to pay $10,000 to the Planters and Merchants Bank of Huntsville. Also included are several promissory notes from Monroe and Greene counties which had been paid off, 1821, and a list of persons in Greene County who had not paid off their notes as of 1821 Jan. 1.
