John Wheelock was born in Lebanon, Conn. in 1754. He attended Yale University for three years, then transferred to Dartmouth College and graduated in 1771 with the first class. Jurist, politician, and professor of law Joseph Story (1779-1845) was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts on September 18, 1779. He received an AB from Harvard in 1798, an AM in 1801, and an LLD in 1821; he also received law degrees from Brown University and Dartmouth College. In 1802, Story married Mary Lynde Oliver.
