Papers of J. G. van Gelder, 1925-1980.

The papers include correspondence, lectures, notes, articles, proofs, clippings, and ephemera. Plus annotated books and material extracted from art books and catalogues. Subject files hold research material on Van Gogh, Durer, Rembrandt, Rubens and miscellaneous Dutch and Flemish artists. Correspondence includes letters regarding Guido Reni (box 22). The research files include the 1970 re-edition of Failles' catalogue raisonne and printed material on the "Van Gogh in Holland" lecture Toledo, Ohio, 1962 (box 9); material on the symposium 'Rembrandt and his Time' 1969 (box 16); and manuscripts on Bruegel (boxes 20, 22) and Jan van Scorel (box 10). Additional material on Jan de Bisschop, Van Orley, Dieric Bouts, Jan Lievens, Helbert Cuyp, Pyke Kock (box 17), Carel Willink (box 21), F. Post and Joroen Bosch (box 15) among others. The collection includes loose material from van Gelder's books, now in the Center Library, including correspondence, notes and clippings extracted from art books and catalogues.
